Many—mostly undemocratic—American IAO's claim to be representative voices of the U.S. Jewish population, WJC claims it is the voice of the entire global Jewish community.

Mainstream media has helped build this branding. In 1981, The New York Times hailed a change in WJC leadership the following way: "Mr. Bronfman succeeds Philip M. Klutznik as president of the World Jewish Congress, which represents Jewish communities in 66 countries."

Although it is not a U.S. headquartered organization, WJC intensively fundraises across the United States, encouraging recipients to sign petitions as voters by state. According to the WJC, "Jews are fleeing Europe out of justifiable fear" due to to a massive new outbreak of anti-Semitism. "The United Nations Human Rights Council is rapidly becoming a mockery of itself, betraying its own mandate with its unending and baseless accusations against Israel."
